Our Values

🍽️ 1. The Outcome is the Entrée

Outcome > Activity. We care about results, not effort. If it doesn’t drive real business outcomes, it’s not on the menu. We bias toward action because a good decision today beats a perfect one tomorrow. We make mistakes of action vs sitting on our hands, we celebrate failing fast—but never the same way twice.

🧑‍🍳 2. AI Preps, Humans Plate

Judgment is the one ingredient we don’t automate away. We skip the hype and build products that actually work inside the real constraints of real companies. If a product isn’t immediately useful and making people better at their jobs, it isn’t fully baked. We’re AI-native, but a people business first—always prioritizing team and customer relationships.

🍲 3. Boil It Down

Simplicity wins. We are simplifiers, not complicators, in the business of cutting waste through AI-first automation, lean meetings and simple language. Before cooking, we search for recipes that already exist – building new things is fun, but rebuilding what already exists is not. We reduce the sauce until only what matters remains.

🧾 4. No Hidden Ingredients

We are fiercely honest. Bad news travels as fast as good news. We do not leave things open-ended; we chase ambiguity to ensure closure. If it’s ever unclear who owns a problem, we claim it and close the loop. We value people’s time and respond quickly because we never want to be the bottleneck.

🌶️ 5. Bold, Not Spicy

We leave our egos at the door. We have grit, a chip on our shoulder, and something to prove. We find fun in challenges. The kitchen will get hot—the work is hard, but the payoff is worth it. Grinding isn’t always glamorous, but winning is.

About Fancysauce:

Here's the recipe — We're Fancysauce. We've all noticed the rapid changes going on with LLMs and AI in the workforce. In addition to the excitement, what also comes with this hypergrowth is surprise AI bills that companies aren't able to manage.

Enter Fancysauce: Agentic recipes for AI Cost Management. Acting as your AI-native load balancer, Fancysauce provides the exact "recipes" to optimize your AI stack across three courses: (1) surfacing the best tools for your team, (2) maximizing AI usage + ROI, and (3) dynamically routing model usage, unused licences, and other resources so teams can accelerate AI outcomes without surprise, company-compounding AI bills.

Our founding team is made up of Harvard grads and Apple alumni who previously built an AI-enabled workflow intelligence and integration platform, Retain.ai (raised $30M, acquired). We’re backed by tier A investors including Afore Capital (#2 rank Business Insider) and angels from Gemini, OpenAI, Baseten and more. CEO has scaled revenue $0-$100M+ with 4 exits.

About This Role:

As Founding Engineer and the second engineer on our team, you’ll step in and make an immediate impact. We operate with a "manager of one" mindset, meaning you’ll take full ownership of product verticals end-to-end and ship new features multiple times a day. It’s a challenging, highly collaborative role built for someone who wants to move fast. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and have an outsized impact on how companies manage their AI, you’re going to fit right in at Fancysauce.

A great sauce doesn't require 50 ingredients. Similarly, our tech stack is simple so we can focus on shipping value. We rely on TypeScript, React, Next.js, and GCP (CloudRun, CloudSQL/Postgres, BigQuery), plus a dash of Python. Because we aren't just building standard software, we lean heavily into agentic engineering principles. As a founding engineer, a massive part of your job will be defining how agents interact, build, and scale within our architecture.

Requirements - You Should Be…

  • An AI-native builder: You are an expert in using agentic engineering principles and AI coding agents to enhance your productivity, effectiveness, and quality. You use these tools as an extension of your expertise and own capability.
  • A "manager of one": You are able to define, plan, and execute on your work, and hold yourself accountable to deliver high-quality work on time.
  • An incredible collaborator: You are able to communicate about your work, defend your decisions, and be willing to give and take feedback with an open mind. Be willing to challenge long-held assumptions in your own and in others’ minds.
  • A flexible problem-solver: You’ll be working across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and DevOps daily, and should be energized by moving across these contexts to build the product and solve issues that come up. Digging into GCP logs to figure out issues shouldn’t daunt you.

We’d love it if you:

  • Have 3-5+ years of experience in a significant engineering role at a company, ideally in a full-stack role. If you’re on either side of this band, we’d want to hear from you about why you’d still be a great fit.
  • Are fluent and comfortable in TypeScript, React, and SQL, and are comfortable reading Python on occasion. We’re open to candidates who don’t have all of this experience, but you should be ready to become fluent in these core technologies.
  • Care deeply about enhancing AI-driven engineering workflows. You enjoy and derive value from enhancing your toolset and sharing those improvements with others.
  • Are excited about the transformation taking place within the software engineering world, and are enthusiastic about helping companies navigate that change across their entire organization.
  • Have a high tolerance for food puns. If you've made it this far, you may be the exact missing ingredient we need. We work hard, ship great products fast, and find fun in challenges. Building a three-Michelin-star company is not mutually exclusive from doing the most challenging and rewarding work of your career.

Why In-Person in SF Matters (3 Days/Week):

We require 3 days a week in our SF office, and we're looking for builders who truly understand the value of being in a room together. Here's why in-office days matter:

  • Speed requires proximity: Shipping multiple times a day and iterating on core infrastructure happens when you can tap a teammate on the shoulder.
  • A-players work with A-players: There's a buzzing energy in the office. Hit the whiteboard with anyone here on an in-office day and you'll understand why. Big decisions happen live, not in backlogged async threads.
